Start with the plugin and its source
A plugin can package reusable skills, app integrations and MCP servers. Read the listing's original source, account requirements and supported Codex surface before installing.
A plugin bundle and one of its component skills can both appear in this directory. Follow the relationship links so you know whether one installation already supplies both.
Use the Codex plugin browser
Open Plugins in the Codex app. In Codex CLI, use the plugin browser command shown below. Browse or search, open the plugin details and select the installation action.
Marketplace availability can differ by source and host. If you cannot find a plugin, use its author's current installation guide rather than substituting a command intended for a different agent.

Some plugins ask you to connect an app during installation; others wait until first use. Complete the provider's authentication flow with an account that has access to the content you need.
Authentication can vary by Codex login method. The GitHub plugin, for example, documents an app connector for ChatGPT-login sessions and a hosted MCP path for API-key sessions. Use the instructions for your actual setup.
Start a new thread and confirm the scope
After installation, start a new thread and describe a concrete task. You can explicitly choose a plugin or bundled skill using the host's selector.
Check what tools and accounts are available before asking for changes. Installing a plugin keeps your existing approval settings in effect. If you uninstall it later, separately manage connected apps that you no longer want authorized.
